Great alternative, but...
It's the quickest way to getting your site translated, but keep in mind your editors can't generate original content in their native language - that has to be done in the site's language and translated by Google afterward.
The other problem is the terms and conditions. The underlying script is 3rd party and not subject to Drupal's license. You can't modify the script in any way, so for example, you can't get rid of the annoying link to the author's website. There's also mention of future advertising via the service, over which you will have no say or control.
I use it as a stopgap while I convert my site to true Drupal multilingual capability, no easy task particularly if you make extensive use of Views, node references, etc, as many modules don't play well (or at all) with internationalization.
Also useful to see how some languages might break your layout, like with German which tends to make really long words, potentially messing up menus or labels that have fixed widths.
