The Override Node Options module allows permissions to be set to each field within the Authoring information and Publishing options field sets on the node form. Just what I needed! I wanted to give my content editors permission to not publish items until they were ready. The core node module either gives total permissions or none at all. Something like this should be part of the core.
In a lot of occassions, the "administer nodes" permission is not fine-grained enough. This module does a great job solving this.
