I saw a comment on drupal to use a previous version, got that one working. Otherwise you just get a bunch of DB warnings, which are not fun. Maybe author is using pgsql or something other than mysql?
I had success with version 6.x-3.2. Upload feature isn't there, but that's OK, it works. Docs on the site are decent, but don't mention this little not working issue with the latest version. :)
I know the guys are working on D7, but if I hear of a new version 6 that works I'll update here.
I needed to add one to a site with a relatively easy to please client who didn't need lots of bells and whistles. Came in handy, and in less than 20 minutes, I had it installed and a gallery on the site.

I searched a simple gallery with not too much features and with this module, I found what I was looking for. It's easy to install, easy to upload pictures and quite fast because it doesn't have many features. After installing the module you only have to specify the path where your pictures are stored. The module then creates your albums (each subfolder equates to an album). There is also a random image block. It fits perfectly to my needs and I can only recommend it to those who are looking for an simple and fast possibility to show some pictures to the visitors. I used it here
