This module has been rewritten from scratch and is now distributed with the Drupal6 version of CCK as content_permissions module. If you are looking to restrict access for a specific field in a node (pending subscription payment, for example), this module works brilliantly. Highly recommended and ingenious to boot!
This module allows an admin to fine tune control over access to CCK fields. For the most part, it works very well, however, CCK field data types are not very well defined and so managing them can be tricky.
You will have trouble managing certain types of CCK fields like node and user references.
