Drupal Modules

News

Hello, and welcome to DrupalModules.com, a community-powered rating and review service dedicated to helping you find the best Drupal modules for your project!

Need help finding the right Drupal module? Try Module Finder, a powerful new tool that searches as you type! Filter modules by category, version, title, or keywords, and watch the results update in real time.

Want to see what other Drupal users think? Check out the top Drupal modules as ranked by rating or downloads, or just browse through the latest module reviews.

Adding your own review is easy: There's an "Add Review" link on every module page. Let the world know about your favorite module, and get linked!

I've designed a new user profile page. To view a user's profile, just click the [info] link that appears next to their name at the bottom of a review:

New user profiles

The profile page will show you when the user joined, a link to their website (if they've set one), and a list of all reviews they've submitted.

You'll also be able to see each reviewer's overall ranking on the site. The more high quality reviews a user submits, the higher they will rank.

Here's my profile. I'll be adding a block and/or page listing the top users in the near future.

We're now officially the #1 Drupal resource online, with more users than any other 3rd party Drupal site. Check out the stats on Google Trends! We also passed the 1 million hits mark this week.

Furthermore, I'd like to thank the maintainers at Drupal.org for adding DrupalModules to handbook, it's an honor to be included.

Small update: Drupal 6 has overtaken Drupal 5 in terms of search popularity. As a result, I've updated Module Finder to default to Drupal 6 now.

Based on a suggestion from Athaclena, I've added some redirection to the "add to favorites" and "add a review" links.

Here's how it works:

1. You're viewing a module but not logged in yet.
2. You click on "add to favorites" or "add a review"
3. You log in (or create a new account).
4. You're redirected back to the module you were viewing.

The new behavior happens at step 4. Previously you would get sent back to the front page after logging in, losing your place. Clicking the back button didn't help because you'd just get the not-logged-in version again.

Now you're automatically redirected back to the page you were using, complete with fully functional "add" buttons. This should make logging in a little more convenient.

I'll be doing some server upgrades shortly. This involves rebooting the server. Downtime should be kept to a minimum.

Update: The upgrades are complete, everything went smoothly. FreeBSD is a beautiful thing.

I just discovered a new feature of Google Trends that lets you compare traffic between various sites, and it turns out we're the most popular user-driven site in the Drupal community! Aside from Drupal.org, of course ;)

Thanks to everyone who helps spread the word about this site, and double thanks to those of you who have submitted reviews!

Update: We also got a mention in Information Week!

I just put together a word cloud based on all the modules from this site. The cloud shows the top 150 words used by Drupal developers to describe their modules.

The book contest is now over, and AllRoCol is the winner! AllRoCol submitted quite a few in-depth reviews, but I found his Amazon module review especially useful.

For his efforts, AllRoCol will receive a free copy of Learning Drupal 6 Module Development.

Thanks to everyone who submitted reviews!

I've added a new feature to the right-hand sidebar called "Top Drupal Books". This list ranks the Top 5 Drupal books based on their Amazon.com sales rank.

Currently Building Powerful and Robust Websites is in first place, but I definitely recommend checking out Learning Drupal 6 Module Development, it's really the best resource out there if you want to learn Drupal 6 coding (I have to admit, I'm a bit biased: I was one of the Technical Reviewers for the book!).

Buying your books through these links helps me keep this site going, and royalties from Packt Publishing books are shared with the Drupal Association, so everybody wins.

Free Book Contest!

Want to win a free copy of Learning Drupal 6 Module Development?

On June 9th, I'll select the best new module review, based on three factors: writing quality, rating fairness, and the overall usefulness of the review. The author of the winning review will receive a free copy of the aforementioned book.

If the winning reviewer happens to live in North America, I'll ship them a physical copy of the book. Otherwise, the winner will receive the e-book version, due to the high cost and general unreliability of international shipping.

Only reviews posted from today forward will be considered for this contest. That gives you roughly 2 weeks to write an awesome review.

Reviewer of the Week

Finally, this week's reviewer of the week is Joep Hendrix. Joep recently posted a ton of useful reviews, helping push DrupalModules.com over the 300 review mark!

Thanks to John Kenney for pointing out some rather ugly problems with the new navigation bar. The new buttons were collapsing into a big pile on the right side of the screen for many people. That should be fixed now.

You might need to refresh the page to get the latest CSS file loaded.

Today's lesson: Don't forget to test your new designs at multiple screen resolutions! :)

I've redesigned the site navigation bar. The goal of this redesign was two-fold:

1. Highlight key areas of the site with large buttons.
2. Add room for more feature links, like the "most favorited" list.

The color scheme and overall look did not change very much, the main difference is in how the space is being used.

In other news, this week's Reviewer of the Week is Heather James. Heather has submitted more than 10 high-quality reviews, making her one of the most active reviewers on the site!
